Big White Fog
Almeida (Off West End), Islington, London 11 May to 30 June 2007
Struggling to keep his dreams alive and family together,
Victor Mason is loyal to an ideology at odds with his family.
Big White Fog is set in Chicago, and follows Victor’s loyalty to the
Back to Africa separatist movement as it clashes with his family’s
pursuit of the American dream in post WWI racism and the Great Depression.
Never seen outside America, Ward’s landmark family drama, written when
the words black and playwright were barely synonymous, Big White Fog remains
as poignant for Britain today as it did when it burst upon America 70 years
ago.
Almeida Artistic Director Michael Attenborough’s recently acclaimed
productions include Playing with Fire at the National Theatre, and The Mercy
Seat, The Late Henry Moss, Enemies and There Came A Gypsy Riding for the
Almeida.
